Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 2001

BY JEAN-MARIE SIMART – Wine of the month... pure velvet in the mouth!

This bottle was a surprise gift, brought by a friend we invited for dinner. As per our usual ritual, we decanted the wine for more than one hour before dinner.

The only thing I hold against the Rockford wines is that they are quite difficult to find.

The wine was made with 100% Shiraz and had a wonderful deep ruby colour.

As for the nose: deep forest, humid earth and rotten leaves, with a fantastic blend of vegetal notes.

From the first sip to the last, I enjoyed subtle berry flavours, which last forever on the palate with a long smooth finish at the end. It was pure velvet in the mouth!

It was an exceptional vintage, and is well worth the $190 you will have to pay at Dan Murphy’s if you can get your hands on a bottle.
